An abandoned caboose near Capitol Lake in Olympia, WA

I am sure that I have mentioned it before but I love trains.  I am a sucker for pretty much anything railroad related.  I have a large collection of HO model trains and have been known to spend hours browsing online images of both modern and vintage railroad imagery.  Railroads are not nearly as vital to the transportation of our day to day items, or people for that matter, as they used to be, and even the technology of the railroad has left things like the caboose behind.  Some will get that pun. :-)

This abandoned caboose is very near Capitol Lake in downtown Olympia which is a popular walking loop when the weather is nice.  I have walked by this caboose hundreds of times and have made a ton of snapshots of it.  During this walk I brought along my D600 with my new 28-300 with the sole purpose of making an image that I would share, this is the final image.

I hope you enjoy it, and please click on the image to see a larger version.

Terrific shot, Scott, love the drama you’ve captured here! I could spend a lifetime with a caboose like that. I totally got your joke, too, and had a great little chuckle over that. Awesome post, my friend!!
