I have always been fascinated with the art of blowing glass. I had the opportunity to watch the artisans at the Tacoma Glass Museum create this years great pumpkin, apparently they do this every year, and it was a fascinating experience.
It took a number of hours of building up, coloring and shaping the molten glass until it was ready to actually be blown into the pumpkin. It took an entire team of artists who worked like a well oiled machine to pull this feat off. Even though things moved very slowly, right up until the last few seconds when they actually blew the glass, it was simply fascinating to watch everything that lead up to those couple seconds.
In addition to watching the artists create the pumpkin, it was a great opportunity to test the a6000 out in some challenging conditions. I was shooting hand held, in a darker environment with scenes that had very wide ranges in color and contrast. This image is a perfect example of that. I can honestly say that I am quite pleased with how that tiny little camera handled a really big job.
