First chase of the 2013 Arizona monsoon season

A storm is coming

Yesterday evening marked my first official chase of the 2013 Arizona monsoon season.  I can’t begin to tell you just how great it felt to get out storm chasing, even if the first image I am sharing isn’t of a great storm with great lightning, or even a great dust storm.  What I do have though is what I think is an interesting sky over the desert landscape and a very small dust storm.

I did end up shooting a bunch of lightning, but to be honest, nothing that I really think is worthy of sharing.  Stay tuned though and hopefully I will be sharing more very soon.

Storm Chasing 2013

This blog post finds me sitting in a hotel room in Chandler, AZ.  I am in town for my day job but I am also here for a week of storm chasing.  When we moved back to the pacific northwest last April I never got the opportunity to make a trip back to Arizona during the 2012 monsoon season, and while I did get a few lightning images from some storms in Washington state, I am really feeling the need to get out and chase the Arizona monsoon, I have been chasing it for well over a decade after all.

The image that I am sharing with this blog post is actually something of a #WayBackMachine image as it was from a late season storm back in 2010 near Maricopa, AZ.

Happy 4th of July 2013

Happy Independence Day everyone.  I have always loved the 4th of July and trying to get in as many fireworks displays as possible.  Oh yeah, the cook outs and what not are also a bit of a highlight.

Racing to the Tacoma Dome

Today takes us back to my night shooting up in Tacoma a little over a week ago with this shot of light trails on Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome.

I actually shot here for quite awhile, from a number of different places on the bridge, but this is the only composition I was really happy with after importing everything onto my computer.  I really like having the highway sign for the Tacoma Dome to give a little context to the dome itself, especially for those that are not familiar with the dome.
